CPI cont…..
CPI cont…..
Then, the highest marks on the colors will be the dominant color for the person. For instance, the table above shows that the person who is the dominant color is Gold. So s/he is identified as Gold person. Below is the description of person depending the dominant color s/he get from this CPI assessment.
So, here we can see that the person who gets the GOLD as dominant color generally is a person who like to bonding to the rules. Instead of the green people whom more bonding on thoughts, the blue people bonding on emotion and the orange people bonding on freedom. Don’t you see this assessment is good tools for us measuring ourselves directly? Even it not accurate 100%. But it still contributes something for us to know ourselves better rite?
There is the last part of Personality Interpretation in CPI that I can’t explain here. But it would tell us more detail about who are we in direct words. What can I say here is, whatever colors we are, we have our importance in this world. That is depending on our attitude and efforts to develop our self on our aptitude, skills ad knowledge to be outstanding in our career and life. There are no such a good things in this world compare who have peace and satisfaction in what s/he has done in her/his life.
Personality.........
Salam…
We all always talk about John L. Holland for the great psychology assessment expertise who produce the Vocational Preference Inventory (VPI) and Self-Directed Search(SDS) who include in our course syllabus. But, currently, I met the Malaysian psychology assessment expertise, Dr. Sidek Mohd Noah from Putra University of Malaysia.
He introduce the Color Personality Inventory (CPI). I was there when he held his talked about that assessment in Science Islamic University Malaysia in Nilai. I also do the assessment under his guidance with other 300 participants. This assessment is very good and make me feel very interesting in exploring more on the career, personality assessments for become effective tools to measure people interest and personality for career decision and development.
The CPI is an assessment which evaluate a person depending on almost 100 short questions to be answered spontaneously by that person in short time. The answers are provided in “YES” and “NO” depending on what the person think s/he was. Then, the total of the “YES” answers are calculated according to the rows provided that identify by colors: GOLD, BLUE, GREEN, and ORANGE. Examples answers as above.

career guidance in the school
school-to-career
not enjoy career
taking children to work program
i suggest that we can make this program as a assingment for them and then present it infront of their class about their experience.
by doing this, everyone can get the clear view about the work world.
the purpose of doing this program is to educate children on various career option and to empower them. this program also can increase children's understanding about the work and will help them to make career decision.
School to work?
For me, I think this program is excellent because it helps students make the connection between the classroom and the world of work. It helps them understand the relationship between learning and earning. Throughout this program, they learn about careers, selecting challenging courses, choosing work experiences which all these will better prepare them for life after graduating from school whether they choose additional education and training or go right into the workforce. The majority of good paying jobs also will require education beyond secondary school. Students often don't know enough about what these jobs are, where they will be located or the skills they will require. They need to learn about the skills and knowledge needed for the jobs of the future and that's will lead them where they want to go. Therefore, by developing this program in our education system, it will help the school to provide an excellent informed and considered career decision to the student. This program also will provide career exploration and guidance to help students select courses for a smoother and more productive transition. Throughout all those experiences such as being exposing by hands-on technology, critical thinking skills and real-life applications in school-to-work program that are combined with both academic and technical courses, it might definitely help students make the connection between school and the real world. But, the problem here is whether our education system is allert about this beneficial or are they are successfully achieving it or still work on it? if it's not, it is our duty as future school counselor to bring it on...
9 Tips for Better Online Job Hunting
Following are some tips to keep in mind the next time you look online.
1- Top Job sites
It's prudent to start your job search by visiting top job sites such as JobsDB.com because of the sheer number of listings offered. In addition, employers of all scales and industries are apt to list their job openings on sites with strong brand recognition. If you're at a crossroads in your career or willing to relocate, the big boards offer the widest view of what jobs are currently available.
2-Submit your online resume or ready-made resume
Resume and cover letter are the marketing tools to sell yourself to the employers. Employers will judge you based on your resume. You must ensure that the submitted resume is great and containing the essential details. You may spend some time to fill in your online resume step-by-step. Or, to save your time, you may make use of the resume upload function to upload your ready-made resume to the recruitment site if you have it on hand. The advantages of a full online resume over a ready-made resume is that it guides you through developing a good resume without missing out the important details that all employers would like to know about the candidates. But be mindful of your spelling and grammar when typing information directly onto online forms.
3-Essential of Resume Update regularly
Always get your resume prepared with updated information to tackle every opportunity when great openings present. In order to maximize the opportunity of getting hired, you should regularly update your resume with relevant accomplishments, new job duties, recently achieved certifications, and other similar achievements.
4-Get jobs come to you, Job Alert Subscription
In addition to search the large boards, you may get the jobs come to you by subscribing to service offered by recruitment site - Job Alert! The service allows the job seeker to specialize your preferred job function and suit to your field. Besides, it always keeps you up-to-date on opening or position offered by employers. All you need to do is check your email daily to get the job alert, you may apply directly when suitable job found. Subscribe now to Job Alert!
5-Appropriately utilise quick apply
Most job sites enable users to apply for a position with a simple click of the mouse. But don't blindly apply. Recruitment managers seek tailored resumes that directly tie a job seeker's unique skills and abilities to the requirements of the position. Take the extra time and effort to customize your application materials to each specific opportunity.
6-Be an expert in job hunting
Make yourself full with knowledge of job hunting especially for newcomers to the job market. Guides to write great resume and cover letter, negotiating your salary, tips of attending interview, asking the right question in the interview and so on are the precious intellectual treasures for your career hunting. You may subscribe to e-Newsletter where you can receive lots of useful tips on job hunting. Sometimes, you may find some special messages or special recruitment messages from the employers. So, don't miss them, it is vital! They may change your life. Let's subscribe to e-Newsletter now.
7-Let the resume be searchable
Always keep your resume "open" for searching! A searchable resume will open the door to be head hunted by the potential employers. You don't know when the employers will knock on your door unexpectedly to offer you a job opportunity. Probably you will receive some resume request from employers which are unexpected or you may not be interested on the positions offered. But you can still send a resume and cover letter to the company to widen the opportunity, as anything can happen in future.
8-Scanning oldies for goodies
It is a big mistake to limit your search to positions posted in the last few days. Some positions posted one month ago might still available; especially hard-to-find skills are required. It will be advantageous to focus on oldies opening while most job seekers focusing on recent postings, you may be competing with fewer candidates.
9-Follow up
When job hunting is done online, it's critical that you follow up with prospective employers after applying for a position. If you've submitted your application and haven't heard back from the company, make a call or send an e-mail to verify that the resume was received and to reassert your interest in the position. But it should be done within two weeks of submitting application materials.
An online job hunt shouldn't be the only strategy you use to find a new position while the Internet has revolutionized the way job seekers connect with prospective employers. The best searches combine various approaches, including exploring the services offered by recruiting and staffing firms, touching base with members of your professional network, and participating in industry events where you can hobnob with hiring managers.

There are some theories which can help us to make a decision on what type of career that suitable for. John L. Holland theories tell that everyone is characterized with 6 type of person. There are consist of R (Realistic).I (Investigative).A (Artistic).S (Social).E (Enterprising).C (Conventional). This characteristic is come out with an evaluation test. All these characteristic of people are determined with the most 3 characteristics of person. As a counselor for example, the person who are characterized with Social, Enterprising and Artistic are most suitable than the other characteristic of person.
Nowadays, in our job market, graduate may suffer because of there are less chances for graduate to get a job. Because this situation. Some people may accept any job that present.
As a conclusion, it doesn’t mean that the person who is not having the characteristic for some type of career can’t be hired for that career. But, that person may suffer on doing his career because of unsuitable career.

Finally I got my chance to joint in this blog together to contribute something. The first lesson that I got from this course is the different term between career, profession, job, and work. From what I’ve understood is career bring a deep meant for everyone. It’s about a type of work that you do or hope to do most of your life. Profession bring a meaning that a work that you have been trained for and intend to do for several years. Job brings the different meaning from the other. Job is that you do because you have a very strong feeling that doing this job is the purpose of your life and especially because you want to help other people. From all these stuff, I realize that the career is something that too important in someone life. There are someone said that choosing career is mostly like once in a lifetime.
Anyhow, I’m not really sure about the statement that choosing career is mostly like once in a lifetime. This is because, nowadays, someone will not be an accountant for the whole of his life, or a teacher can be a businessman before retired. Someone career may change in order to get the satisfaction and get more salary from the career he did.
However, market of employment nowadays may differ from the 10 years ago. Our graduated students are always facing the same problem which is still unemployed after graduate. Who have to responsible for this problem? We don’t have to blame anyone because there are so many facts that contribute to this problem. What we should do is to train and give an exploration to our school student about the career and how to strive their ambition. This is the purpose of Career Development course that compulsory for us as the beginner counsellor to learn.

Why is work experience important?
Employers want intelligent graduates who can make sense of complex information, solve problems, work in a team, communicate effectively, manage their time and cope with pressure. Your studies, interests, work experience and part-time jobs will offer opportunities to gain these skills and provide evidence of them. Employers want to see that you have experienced getting to work on time, have learnt how to work with a diverse range of people, understand customer service skills and even that you can tolerate mundane work!
2. Developing new skills and knowledge
Work experience is an ideal opportunity to put some of the theory you have learnt in your degree into practice and develop your skills at the same time. It is also an opportunity to learn new ones.
3. Working out your next step
Testing out careers by undertaking work experience helps you decide which industry or job you might like to work in (or identify those that you definitely do not!)
4. Secure that graduate job early
Employers often use work experience as an extended interview for graduate jobs. With some companies students who have already worked for them will automatically progress to the next step of the recruitment process.
5. And finally... money!
Most positions are paid and can provide you with a little extra cash. Don't ignore the value of voluntary work though. Employers also understand the value of voluntary work, recognising that volunteers often have a high level of motivation, a sense of responsibility and the desire to make a difference.
school-to-work: is it possible?
However, the question is : is it posibble to implement this program to all school in Malaysia?
for me, its impossible for right now. maybe we can do it but it will take a long time to implement this program. we have to make some reasearch obout it first because it will cost a lot of money to develop it. moreover it needs a specialist to handle this program.
in my opinion, this program only can be done within the private school. this is because it will a cost a lot of money to develop it and off course, the school fees will be increase. those who can afford to pay for the fees only can send their childen to these scholl.
nevertheless, i agree if we implement this program to all school because it will help the student in term of to make career dicision but, as i said before it is quite impossible..
what do you think about it? is it possible?

School-to-work transition
School to Work is a system to introduce the philosophy of school-based, work-based, and connecting activities as early as kindergarten to expose students to potential future careers. School to Work emphasizes lifelong learning.
School to Work is funded and sponsored at the federal level by the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Department of Education. At the state level in states like Arizona, the grant is administered by the Arizona Department of Commerce, School to Work Division. This grant was funded for a maximum of five years with decreasing funds years three through five;
An example of county level involvement is the Cochise County School to Work Consortia. 50 plus Cochise County public and private schools, kindergarten through 4-year university level, local and community based organizations, and 150 supporting business partners are participating.
STW is part of a comprehensive education reform movement which includes formulating new standards which emphasize higher order thinking skills, new standards based assessments, and graduation exams, such as the Certificate of Initial Mastery which insure that students are ready for job training or college prep by age 16. Reformers believe that it is important and egalitarian that all students graduate ready for jobs and ready for college, rather than tracking students one way or the other.

I do agree with siti nurbaya. Altough I'm not the good writer but I believe that there is a hope for me to be a good writer if I polish my writing skills from day to day. I starts writing when I'm in the form 1 and of course it's all about myself. Eventough I have diary for every year, but I don't like to write about my planning or what I have done on that day but I used my diary to express my feeling and how to overcome my problem if there is something goes wrong on that day. I also include, what is the moral values that I can apply after observing the behavior of the people. My diary become the moral story book and I will read it at the end of the year.-Just to makesure that I'll improve myself and leaving all of the things that made me lagging behind!

Learn More about Yourself
Knowing your "unique qualities" is not easy. It is a challenge for everyone. But, the clearer picture you have, the more likely you are to choose a satisfying career.
It is important to write your ideas down. You may find this difficult to do, many do. But, it will make a big difference in your self-understanding. Write down your thoughts and feelings as you do the exercises below. Make a folder to keep your notes and writings.
Here are eight strategies you will find helpful:
Take tests or inventories that measure your abilities, interests, values, and personality. Write out your reactions to the results.
Look carefully at your achievements in school or at work to identify your abilities. If you are a student, for example, which subjects have you done well in, or not so well in? If you work, do the same analysis. What does this tell you about your abilities -- mechanical, verbal, numerical, artistic, and people skills? Be careful not to overlook, or leave out, your abilities. Looking over the 17 Foundation Skills will help you avoid doing this.
Examine how you use your leisure time -- your hobbies, community projects, activities with social, political, or religious organizations. For each one, write down three headings: Abilities, Interests, and Values. And, under each heading write down your thoughts.
Talk with a friend or family member who is a good listener.
Talk with a professional counselor; learn about career counseling.
Go to Identify Your Skills. There you will learn what the different types of skills are and how to identify those you have. The activities that are described are powerful; they are used by the top consulting firms in the country. You will find them well worth the effort.
Write an autobiography and identify the themes that represent who you are.
Write a personal mission statement. In it write: what you want to be, what you want to accomplish in life, and what values or principles you want to guide you.

The Career Planning Process
by Dawn Rosenberg McKay
Taking It Step-By-Step
What is Career Planning?
Career planning is a lifelong process, which includes choosing an occupation, getting a job, growing in our job, possibly changing careers, and eventually retiring. The Career Planning Site offers coverage of all these areas. This article will focus on career choice and the process one goes through in selecting an occupation. This may happen once in our lifetimes, but it is more likely to happen several times as we first define and then redefine ourselves and our goals.
Career Planning: A Four Step Process
1.Self
Gather information about yourself (self assessment)
• Interests
• Values
• Roles
• Skills/Aptitudes
• Preferred Environments
• Developmental Needs
• Your realities
2.Options• Explore the occupations in which you are interested
• Research the industries in which you would like to work
• Research the Labor Market
Get more specific information after you narrow down your options by:
• Job Shadowing
• Part time work, internships, or volunteer opportunities
• Written materials
• Informational interviews
3.Match
During this phase of the process, you will:
• Identify possible occupations
• Evaluate these occupations
• Explore alternatives
• Choose both a short term and a long term option
4.Action
You will develop the steps you need to take in order to reach your goal, for example:
• Investigating sources of additional training and education, if needed
• Developing a job search strategy
• Writing your resume
• Gathering company information
• Composing cover letters
• Preparing for job interviews

- Occupational descriptions
- Descriptions of schools
- Description of program of study
- Description of military occupations
- Description of apprenticeships/ internships

- Description of financial aid
Barriers & Decision Styles
CAREER INFO & RESOURCES
Act,it helps students a lot..it makes students became more aware of need to make career decisions..They also may obtain info about identified alternatives..Besides, as a CR, we can help students make those info & resources as tentative choices from among available occupations then make educational choice..Not solely to education, this also implement a vocational choices for those lack of interest in futhering study in stream academic..With those things, students may identify ocupational alternatives and learn more about and or reevaluate self..
Salary..
Juz want to share opinion, are we all agree if the salary for teacher of any kind of subject and level of school, i.e. kindergarten, primary schools and secondary schools is same? like dr siraje said that happened in outside of Malaysia..for me, it's not a good idea and this is not because of the amount of salary but it more to the challenges that certain teachers have to face..is it same when teacher teach in kindergarten compared to teacher who have to teach in secondary schools? With their lots of work..their thousand of characters of students..it's more challenging..in addition the students' behavior nowadays, we can't say it is easier to all teachers to adapt this environment..let's all of us think about it..
using theories in career development
actually i'm agree with aisyah that we have to use the theories to help our clients. but i think that not all the theories are suitable in our culture. in order to be a good counselor, we have to master in all the western theories to build our understanding on that particular career development. counselor has to play a good role model to enhance the career builder for the next generation..

insya allah in 2 years after i finished my study, i will produce one book at least...

regarding to the farah's post
actually i have the same dilemma with farah. i don't writing. for me, it will become my burden in everyday life. However, i become more interesting to publish something. it is very wonderful.. i really have fun when i posting something in the blog. it begun when i posting the article and sharing new idea in the forum in PSSCMUIAM' website.even in this blog, we have the opportunities to write or publish something new.
you know why?? from writing, we can express our thought. furthermore, we are capable to express everything in our life including our feeling, emotional, what is like and dislike and more. it also enhance our development progress but how? from writing, we can exchange the information, criticizing other opinions, reflecting on something, giving the idea and etc... i hope that all of us will enhance our writing hobbies in the future. try it.. it is so amazing. we also can meet new friends and build good relationship with others. thanks to dr siraje because he gives us platform to share something in the blog. he also gives us a good initiative to develop for our development progress.
ok, don't forget to write and develop it as our new habit.. try it!
virtual career center
regarding to the our lessons today,i actually agreed that counseling setting nowadays has to set up virtual career center to enhance the professionalisms of the counselor. it may include the assessment, linkages to other website, and cyber counseling assistant. it is due to the modernize country and we are living in the era of the globalization. with the technology that we have nowadays, we are capable to make the user-friendly circumstances. for instance, the counseling center in well known university has the variety of services including career development program for the students. it includes the linkages for the suitable website that enable us to surf the appropriate website and searching the information that can give us the benefit for the future. furthermore, the counseling setting has to be organized in terms of the material types, the content of career planning step, and many more..
WRITING 4 OUR FUTURE? IS IT IMPORTANT?
thats is the reason why i seldom post my writing in this blog.. i dont have the SKILLS to write..
however i agree with dr siraje and sis aisyah that writing will help us to built a good career in the future.yes, writing will give us a lot of benefits and profits.. hehe.. all i need to do is, i must chance my mind and thinks writing is somethng that enjoyble to me and do not assume it as a burden.. we are what we are thinking.. if we say we can do it, then we can.. if we say that we cant, then we cant....
Well, from now on, i will try my best to start writing. inshaALLAH...

Today, the profession that we choose is influenced by many factors. For me, I choose it due to my family. This job allows us to spend more time with the family actually. That is why; this job has been chosen mostly by the women. We enjoy our time with the family members after the school hours. The people who need to work at office; they won’t have this opportunity since they going back to home at the night.. So, since we will involve in this career, there is no reason for us to not to visit our family later on..(Just a reminder actually) and you.. you choose this career due to what factors?
