Our roles as future school counselor...

I just want to share with all of you about what I have found. In next 3 year, we all are becoming a counselor in secondary school. One of our responsibilities is to make our student become aware and help them by Informed and Considered Career Decision program. We as a future counselor should prepare ourself in acquiring career information that might be used in Informed and Considered Career Decision in school. Career information from brochures, pamphlets, poster and others will guiding the students to get access on career information and help them make decision for their future career. Actually, that’s the counselor role whereby we need to assist students to turn the data into information. We should have reliable data that will be essential to their career decision making. We can acquired data from printed sources, computer-assisted career guidance systems, website or people like what Dr. Siraje stretch up in our previous class. After I have done some surfing on internet, I had found some website that might help in our field in the future. There are http://www.careerkey.org/?action=choices& which this websites will gives expert help with career search and career choices, career change, career planning, job skills, and choosing a college major that might give you essential data and information to your student. Through this website career assessment also, it helps find a career by matching the personality with careers and providing the complete and accurate information about each career that have been chosen to be explored. Other than that, there are http://careerplanning.about.com/od/occupations/a/career_briefs.htm which having profile of variety of career choices, including job description, job outlook, salary and others. And the last one is www.personalitypage.com/careers.html which provides character traits which affect career choice along with some suggestions for possible directions. Throughout the data acquired, we can used it to determine domains of cognition involved in career choice such as self- knowledge, occupational knowledge and decision making skill. Lastly from me, let’s prepare ourself completely with the knowledge so that we can help others to guide their own future life without taking a wrong path that will lead to unsatisfactory of career decision in the future.
